I was watching Chinese movie ‘Oh My God’ which stars EXO‘s Lay when I saw something familiar. There was a shot of the fridge with photos of the characters and I spotted a (likely photo-shopped) picture of Lay’s character Le Yi, with his character’s girlfriend and best friend posing in front of the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge.
Of all the places to (pretend to) be at, it’s nice that they thought of Australia!
Although the film has had some mixed reviews, in my opinion, it’s a great movie to watch if you’re looking for something light and fluffy that doesn’t require too much thinking. The eye candy and adorable baby antics make some of the questionable parts of the plot forgivable. Although it’s mostly brainless fun, there are some touching moments, which I quite enjoyed.
If you haven’t seen it yet, it’s a sci-fi rom-com about a couple, Le Yi (Lay) and his girlfriend Miga (Jacqueline Li), who are living together with his best friend, Chen Mo (played by the very handsome Chen Xuedong). Tensions are high in the three-person household as Miga is in a tug-of-war game with Chen Mo over Le Yi’s attentions. Le Yi is stuck to his best friend due to his feelings of past guilt but she wants to get married and have only the two of them living together. [I feel you girl, it can be hard to break the bro code #brosbeforehoes]
Then Boom! a rock falls out of the sky and turns into a baby who apparently has the DNA of both Le Yi & Chen Mo (a baby made just from two men – best to throw any logic you have out the window at this stage). Thus, the twenty-somethings are faced with the dilemma of taking care of this unexpected bub and hilarious antics ensue.
Although I mostly watched this movie for Lay, I was pleasantly surprised by Chen Xuedong’s acting. I thought he was just a pretty face but he’s actually not bad.
Fun fact: He was a former Cube Entertainment trainee who was almost going to be a part of BTOB but he decided to return to China instead to pursue acting.
There’s also a cameo by film producer, Hollywood actress Zhang Ziyi, who I’ve been a fan of since her ‘Rush Hour’ days. Overall, it’s some great fun so I’d recommend it and personally rate it 8/10.
Bonus: How cute is Lay dancing with baby Brodie to EXO‘s Call Me Baby! Very fitting song and wow, he’s already training the next generation of idols. He’s on his way to his ultimate goal of being Lee Soo Man, haha.
