A song I’ve been listening to a lot lately is ‘Love is Madness’ by 15&, which features rapper Kanto. While I was watching a performance video of it on the JYP YouTube channel, I recognized an Australian aboriginal painting in the background – which is not something you see very often in Kpop videos!
The painting also has the word ‘Australia’ clearly written under it to show where it originated.
How funny that it was NAIDOC Week just last week! NAIDOC stands for the National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee and for those who don’t know much about this national tradition, NAIDOC Week happens every year in July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.
It’s nice to see some Kpop idols getting a taste of our indigenous culture. Perhaps Kanto might have had a hand in it, considering he came to Sydney last year to support label mate Verbal Jint on his concert tour.
