In the season 4 premiere of ‘The X-Factor Australia,’ it appears even the judges Danni Minogue, Ronan Keating, Natalie Bassingthwaighte and LMFAO’s RedFoo can’t escape Kpop.
After enduring a few fun but excruciating renditions of PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ (sorry Miki, it wasn’t your best song choice…), the judges were wowed by Korean-Australian singer Dami Im who blew them away with her cover of Mariah Carey’s ‘Hero.’
Prior to her amazing performance, she commented, “I’m in love with Kpop music. Colourful music videos, really fancy looks…I really wanted to sound like the good Kpop singers but I realized I wasn’t really a good singer at all.”
Fans will easily recognize the Kpop idols, 2PM’s Taecyeon and Girls’ Generation members Jessica and Tiffany, whose pictures popped up on the TV program. How interesting that they all chose American English-speaking idols to put on display.
In addition, 4Minute‘s ‘You Know‘ was being played in the background. You can watch the Kpop cameos here at 35 mins.
Kpop fans also recently spotted the instrumental to Brown Eyed Girls hit ‘Abracadabra,’ playing on Channel 7’s ‘Sunday Night.’ Plus, there’s a Korean Karaoke machine that plays Kpop on ‘Hamish and Andy’s Asia Gap Year‘ on Channel 10, which the duo unsuccessfully try to sing to.
It’s great to see more and more Kpop showing up on main broadcast stations in Australia! =D
Side Note: I actually did go to one of ‘The X-Factor Australia’ recordings as an audience member but didn’t manage to see any Kpop, lol.
